C4P Foundation Director joins the African Union Election Observation Mission to the 29 May 2024 General Elections in The Republic of South Africa.
At the invitation of the Government of South Africa and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, approved the deployment of the short-term AUEOM to assess and report on the conduct of this election.
Mr. Absolom Shalakha, Change4-Planet’si Business Development, Partnerships, and Fundraising Director, joins the AUEOM team as a richly experienced elections specialist with over a decade of expertise in election observation Missions. He was an analyst for the Uwiano Platform for Peace team that helped deliver peaceful elections in Kenya in 2013 and 2017; Joined the AUEOM to the 2016 General Elections in Zambia and led the Pamoja for Transformation’s Elections Observation team for the 2022 General Elections in Kenya. In 2018, he helped design and deploy an on-line CEWER system. He led a team of CSOs that supported the delivery of peaceful elections in the 2019 General Elections of Nigeria, as well as training CSOs in Juba, South Sudan, on the use of Conflict Early Warning Systems in 2015. Under our Peace and Governance Program, the C4P Foundation believes that strengthening peace and governance institutions fosters stability, social cohesion, and equitable development.
The AUEOM is led by H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, former President of the Republic of Kenya, and is comprised of 60 short-term observers (STOs) drawn from ambassadors accredited to the African Union, officials of election management bodies, members of African civil society organizations, African election experts, human rights specialists, gender and media experts, and representatives of youth organizations. The observers are drawn from 24 countries which include Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
